2015.03.24 The President signed the Act of 20 February 2015 amending the Act - the Penal Code and other laws

One of the objectives of the amendment is that likely to be used fines and restrictions on freedom, but rarely adjudicated imprisonment with suspension of performance. As research shows, the punishment suspended, adjudicated in Poland about 60 percent cases, does not perform the deterrent and educational function.

Imprisonment should be reserved for very serious crimes or for offenders who have no chance of improvement. The punishment of restriction of liberty will be able to be connected to for example the electronic surveillance system, will be introduced also the possibility of adjudicate punishment mixed, i.e. short-term imprisonment then combined with a punishment of restriction of liberty. It has also been increased effectiveness of fines - to serve this purpose, among others, is enter compulsory payment person defaulting debtors register.

The amendment is also about the fact that against the serious crime could be applied more stringent repression than before. So that it is about to be introduced the maximum imprisonment of up to 20 years (currently 15 years), in addition to the existing imprisonment of up to 25 years and life sentence.
